Summary

3。5 stars。 The writing/storytelling wasn't phenomenal, but I liked the ideas behind the story, and found the content surprisingly thought-provoking。 Could've used some more nuance around mental health issues。 3。5 stars。 The writing/storytelling wasn't phenomenal, but I liked the ideas behind the story, and found the content surprisingly thought-provoking。 Could've used some more nuance around mental health issues。 。。。more

A perfect book for people with depression, anxiety and constant fear of what is to come。If "what if" seems to fall from your thoughts very often, please read this book。 It won't necessarily cure your thought process but it can help you see things from a new angle。 A perfect book for people with depression, anxiety and constant fear of what is to come。If "what if" seems to fall from your thoughts very often, please read this book。 It won't necessarily cure your thought process but it can help you see things from a new angle。 。。。more

I listened to this as an audiobook。 I really enjoyed the story。 The writing style was very easily digestible, flowed very well, very well paced。 I enjoyed the character’s perspective and the plot was quite good。 The ending was not extremely “WOW” but also not disappointing at all。 Overall, a solid read!

Book had some good lessons, felt it was quite boring and repetitive at times。 Had a good lesson though

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig beat out Anxious People by Fredrik Backman by 5 votes for the 2020 Goodreads novel award。 I highly recommend the Backman book。 This one, not so much。 IMHO Haig’s book is a cross between a self-help book and It’s a Wonderful Life。The Midnight Library is about Nora Seed, who wants to die, but instead ends up in the Midnight Library where she gets to relive all the decisions she regrets and visit all her lives that might have been。 Unsurprisingly, the answer is the The Midnight Library by Matt Haig beat out Anxious People by Fredrik Backman by 5 votes for the 2020 Goodreads novel award。 I highly recommend the Backman book。 This one, not so much。 IMHO Haig’s book is a cross between a self-help book and It’s a Wonderful Life。The Midnight Library is about Nora Seed, who wants to die, but instead ends up in the Midnight Library where she gets to relive all the decisions she regrets and visit all her lives that might have been。 Unsurprisingly, the answer is there’s no place like home。A cross between The Wizard of Oz and A Christmas Carol。 For my expanded notes: https://1book42day。blogspot。com/2021/。。。 “As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases。”Check out https://amzn。to/2SpaDMN to see my books。Check out https://amazon。com/shop/influencer-20。。。 for book recommendations。 。。。more

A lovely mixture of psychology, philosophy and quantum physics, as the main character explores the lives she could have led。The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is the lack of research on Australian geography。 Coffs Harbour is not between Byron Bay and Brisbane!

If you ever feel stuck or bouts of depression cloud your thoughts, read this book。This is a book that shares perspective and I think everyone needs a dose of that to preserve and cultivate empathy。

‘It is easy to regret, and keep regretting, ad infinitum, until our time runs out。 But it is not the lives we regret not living that are the real problem。 It is the regret itself。 It’s the regret that makes us shrivel and wither and feel like our own and other people’s worst enemy。’ -pg 277

3。5 I applaud the effort and intent, but found it a bit "lighter" in content than I prefer。 It's an odd premise。。。a woman trapped between living and dying in a library of endless possibilities。 Kind of like Groundhog Day meets Fifty First Dates meets Sliding Doors meets It's a Wonderful Life, all tied up in a Hallmark bow。 Who among us hasn't thought "what if" about our choices, our paths, our outcomes, our struggles?Following Nora along a successive path of do-overs, we are privy to her regrets 3。5 I applaud the effort and intent, but found it a bit "lighter" in content than I prefer。 It's an odd premise。。。a woman trapped between living and dying in a library of endless possibilities。 Kind of like Groundhog Day meets Fifty First Dates meets Sliding Doors meets It's a Wonderful Life, all tied up in a Hallmark bow。 Who among us hasn't thought "what if" about our choices, our paths, our outcomes, our struggles?Following Nora along a successive path of do-overs, we are privy to her regrets, her inner self-hatred, her life discouragement, her restless out-of-placeness, regardless of outside circumstances。 "Nora had always had a problem accepting herself。 From as far back as she could remember, she'd had the sense that she wasn't enough。 Her parents, who both had their own insecurities, had encouraged that idea。"We watch as each new opportunity changes her perspective--on people, events, pathways, hindsight and self-assessments。 Nora's progression through "library book experiences" was much like watching a person progress through a treatment process, gaining understanding, changing perspective, asking new questions, putting old regrets to rest, finding new purpose。 "She realized that you could be as honest as possible in life, but people only see the truth if it is close enough to their reality。 As Thoreau wrote, 'It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see。'"I suspect that people who have ever struggled with self-worth, depression, regrets, and a sense of failure in life will find much that resonates in these words。 An interesting enough story that clearly is informed by the author's personal struggles, and which offers multiple nuggets of encouragement and a sense of hope。 Given the ratings it is receiving, there are a lot of people in this world who have appreciated what this book offers。 。。。more

The execution of this book was really disappointing。 I liked the premise from the Sylvia Plath quote and the elements of quantum physics worked into the story, but this was ruined by the ignorant messages about mental health and real lack of nuance。 This book erases and invalidates the role that trauma and privilege//oppression play in mental health, and makes light of a serious topic。

4。5 StarsWhat a wonderful book! A fast paced and emotional story that gets you either crying or smiling。 It makes you re-think your perspective on life if you feel lost, sad or depressed。 Filled with quotations of philosophers, advice and guidance on life。 I really recommend it you at least read it once because it is really worth your while。

I'm almost glad I ended up binging most of this book at 1am so that nobody could see me when I was crying。 This book is an emotional force, is written beautifully, and I highly recommend it。 There is a library where you can live all the lives you may have had。。。 so tempting, and yet, it feels like theft to slide into one。 This is a poignant book。 5/5 I'm almost glad I ended up binging most of this book at 1am so that nobody could see me when I was crying。 This book is an emotional force, is written beautifully, and I highly recommend it。 There is a library where you can live all the lives you may have had。。。 so tempting, and yet, it feels like theft to slide into one。 This is a poignant book。 5/5 。。。more
